Long-standing arrears of referees will be paid soon – Alex Kotey

Referees Manager, Alex Kotey has assured the referees that their outstanding allowances will be paid to them very soon.

The referees are owed allowances for officiating in the MTN FA Cup a few seasons ago as well as some weeks of the truncated football season.

Calls to improve monies paid to referees gained momentum after the 26th Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association approved monthly allowances of GHS12,000, GHS7,000 and GHS4,000 for the president, vice-president and other members of the Executive Council respectively.

Welfare body of the referees, Referees Association of Ghana(RAG) has called on the federation to consider improving their entitlement since they are the main actors in the game.

However, the retired referee Kotey has assured the referees their arrests will be cleared in the coming weeks.

“Referees will be paid very soon, we have started working on their monies,” he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

“First of all we will pay the MTN FA Cup allowances in areas, we will settle all of them. Then we look at the subsequent matches which are in arrears,” he ended.
