Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has praised Stephen Amankona after his impressive display against Aduana Stars on Sunday.
Amankona who joined the Reds on a three-year deal from Berekum Chelsea has been struggling for minutes but he has had the chance to start in the club’s last two games and have looked incredible.
Against Aduana, the 21-year-old played the full throttle and was a torn in the flesh of the visitors defense.
After the game, Ogum who has been a critique of Amankona this season was full of praise for the former Ghana U20 star.
“I don’t want to put any numbers (rating /10) out there, all I can tell you, and all we can tell him is that; he is a good player, he needs to back up his game,” Narteh said after the game
“It is not about the player, he is a fine player and I admire him while he was at Berekum Chelsea”
“When I was at WAFA, he played against us and he was the tormentor in chief for Berekum Chelsea”
“But the problem of some of you (media), when you are doing your analysis you look at the lines of sensationalism and emotions, we don’t look at the tactical ability of these players”
“Sometimes it is because you are being influenced or because you like the player. When you do that, it makes the job of the coach very difficult”
“Some of you pick players, recommend them, and say they are good players”
“Football is about skill, technique, strength, and speed. So we (media) need to help so we can improve on our game”
Prosper Narteh concluded by saying the player played well against WAFA and against Aduana Stars on Sunday.
“Against WAFA he played well, today he played well; he created those chances that he could have scored”
Asante Kotoko next take on Ashantigold in Obuasi in the Ashanti derby in a matchweek 29 fixture.
