‘I don’t know what’s wrong with my team’ – Sad Elmina Sharks coach Kobina Amissah says after FA Cup defeat to Hearts of Oak

Head coach of Elmina Sharks, Kobbinah Amissah has been left wondering about the current state of his club.

The Sharks lie bottom of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season and were subsequently kicked out of the MTN FA Cup by defending champions, Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The visitors gave it their all in the round 16 but eventually lost 8-7 on penalty shootouts to the league holders after the entire game ended 2-2.

Kobbina Amissah said: “Honestly I don’t know what’s wrong with my team.

“Everywhere we go this is how we play and everybody will say you have a good team and you are at the bottom of the league. “What I can say is that I need to work on their mentality, mentally they need to be strong and then how to put the ball into the net.

“Goal scoring training sessions, I will work on that and how to build their confidence too because now I think they are down because of the league, where we are lying.

“But they are a good team, nice team, you can testify it, beautiful football from us but at the end of the day we lost. “What I can say is that, it’s a hard luck loss, it was a very bad loss.” Kobina Amissah told StarTimes.

Isaac Mensah connected Sulley Muntari’s corner kick in the first half to pull Hearts of Oak’s first goal of the game. Ishmael Antwi brought Elmina Sharks on level terms with a tap in before Hearts goalkeeper, Richmond Ayi’s howler gave Antwi his second and Shark’s 2-1 lead. With minutes to end the game, Hearts breathed a sigh of relief with a controversial penalty decision after Patrick Razak was adjudged to have been brought down in the penalty area. Kofi Kordzi displaced Shark’s goalkeeper for the Phobians Equalizer.

The 2000 CAF Champions League winners went ahead to claim an 8-7 penalty shootouts win to book a quarter final slot.
