Martin Koopman has reportedly arrived in Ghana to assume the coaching role for Hearts of Oak, as indicated by local media reports.
After the departure of Slavko Matic, the Ghana Premier League club had been actively seeking a new head coach.
Slavko Matic, the Serbian coach who took over from Samuel Boadu midway through the previous season on a two-year contract, was compelled to depart due to a string of poor results.
Following this, former assistant coach David Ocloo briefly held the position of interim manager. Despite guiding the team to a 12th-place finish in the past season, Ocloo and the club have mutually decided to part ways.
The vacancy attracted interest from Nigerian coach Paul Aigbogun and Tunisian coach Khalil Abid.
Reports suggest that Martin Koopman will be formally introduced as the new head coach in the upcoming days. It is believed that technical director Rene Hiddink recommended Koopman to the club’s leadership.
A former Netherlands defender, the 67-year-old Koopman has previously managed teams such as AS Vita Club, FC Den Bosch, and BV Veendam, among others.
Koopman also boasts prior managerial experience with Aruba and Saudi Arabia.
