AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Ghana Black Stars drawn in group C

The Black Stars of Ghana will battle fellow West African counterparts Cote d’Ivoire and The Gambia together with Somalia in Group C of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

In terms of pedigree and achievement on the continent, the Black Stars stand tall among their opponents having conquered Africa four times in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982.

Cote d’Ivoire have won the AFCON thrice in 1992, 2015 and 2024. Both Gambia and Somalia have not chalked any continental success before.

Going by these achievement, one may be right to predict that Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire look favourite to qualify from Group C.

However, it is a fact that the Black Stars have had a poor run in their recent attempts on the continent.

Apart from being shown the exit at the group stage two consecutive times in 2021 in Cameroon and 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire, they failed to qualify for the last edition of the AFCON in Morocco.

Skipper Jordan Ayew and his colleagues will therefore have to redeem their image this time round without any excuses to Ghanaians.
