Asamoah Gyan to be outdoored as Black Stars ambassador

Ghana’s all time top scorer Asamoah Gyan is set to be unveiled as the new ambassador for Black Stars to help promote the team globally.
The ceremony to honour the former Black Stars captain will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. It is a way of appreciating Asamoah Gyan for his immense and dedicated contribution to Ghana Football over the last two decades.
Asamoah Gyan came into the limelight in the early 2000 during his stint with Dasoman based Liberty Professionals.
His youthful exuberance and exploits earned him a call up into the Black Stars in 2003. Following that opportunity presented to him, he never looked back.

He appeared at the FIFA World Cup three times in 2006, 2010 and 2014. He remains Africa’s top scorer at the FIFA World Cup with six goals. He is also on record to have scored the fattest goal at the FIFA World Cup in 2006 from the Africa continent.
He won two silver medals with the Black Stars in 2010 and 2015 AFCON apart from winning bronze in AFCON 2008 hosted by Ghana. In all he scored an amazing 51 goals for the Black Stars to set an unprecedented record.
His lattest appointment therefore comes as a big recognition of his past achievements.
According to the GFA, “Gyan will lead promotional campaigns and partnerships to rally support for the team in North America, and represent the GFA in official meetings while promoting the national teams and Colts football”.
