Coach Frimpong Manso advises Kotoko and AshantiGold to reject the opportunity to play in Africa
2 min readFormer Asante Kotoko coach, Stephen Frimpong Manso is the latest to add his thoughts on the debate as to whether Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold should participate in CAF inter-club competitions next season.
According to the Nkoranza Warriors trainer, the two clubs should reject the opportunity to participate in Africa in the upcoming season.
The Ghana FA settled on the Porcupine Warriors and the Miners for CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup respectively.
Earlier last week, the federation wrote to the clubs to confirm their participation as they have up to September 11 to present their representatives to CAF.
AshantiGold has confirmed their readiness but an official communique is yet to be received from Kotoko. However, several reports indicate that they have agreed to play in Africa.
Coach Frimpong Manso believes the two clubs may not make any meaningful impact due to the poor preparation they will have.
“The quality of players alone cannot guarantee you success in Africa. You need to have a good preparation to be able to make an impact in Africa. We all know that since March we have not had sporting activities going on due to the COVID-19. This has made our teams inactive, ” he told Hello FM.
“The competition is starting in November but as of now, we don’t even know if football will return this September.
“Kotoko and Ashgold may not go through the prelims as they will not get much time to prepare. Because they’ll need much time for the players to get much fitness.
“Countries like Egypt, Algeria, Tanzania and others are playing their leagues. Assuming football return at the end of the month, what better preparations can they do?
“Yes, they can decide to go but what impact can they make? That’s the problem.
I think they will not get much time to prepare so they should not participate in it, ” he reiterated.
