Legon Cities goalkeeper, Abdul Fatau Dauda has advised referees to create a good player-referee relationship on the field ahead of the new season.

According to him, the interaction between players and some referees on the local scene is questionable and does not help in developing the same.

He indicated that respect needs to go both ways, which will necessitate a good working relationship on the pitch.

He explained that referees should engage players in a friendly manner to point out to the reasons for taking a decision which was contested by a player.

“The referees are doing well nowadays. I remember one referee who handled King Faisal vs Legon Cities in the truncated league in Obuasi did very well. Unfortunately, I can’t remember his name. He was constantly cheerfully talking to us throughout the game It’s not normally seen on the local scene like the whites people. You’ll see the White referees laughing when even showing you a card, ” he told Kumasi-based Hello FM.

“At times, the way some referees show cards to players it looks as if he is fighting with the players. It’s not done that way. They are controlling the game so they have to let the players know the offence committed. They have to explain to the players and go on to show the card.

“But at times the way they rush to the players it looks as if he is fighting with you. That’s is not how it should be because they are the centre referees controlling the game.

“The referees can make the game exciting because they take final decisions on the field.

“However, they are humans and can therefore make mistakes. But we’ll pray for them to do things write do that we get a successful 2020-21 football season, ” he concluded.

The Ghanaian top-flight is scheduled to start on November 14, 2020.
