Unity FC players threaten to boycott club after CEO allegedly sells 15 boots donated by GFA

Allegations have arisen against Richmond Osei, the CEO of Unity FC, who has been accused of selling the 30 pairs of soccer boots provided free of charge by the Ghana Football Association for the 2022/23 season.

Players of the Division One League team, Ahafo Kenyasi Unity FC, have threatened to boycott their league matches if Osei does not provide the allocated boots to the players.

The GFA had recently stated that each of the 18 betPawa Premier League clubs and 48 Access Bank Division One League clubs would receive 30 pairs of football boots.

According to the team manager of Unity FC, Osei sold the club’s allocated boots instead of giving them to the players. Osei has denied the allegations, claiming that the boots were in his car.

“He is telling lies. He told us he has not gone for the boots and so I decided to go to Accra and collect them. When I went they told me that Richmond Osei (the CEO) has sent someone to come for the boots. After inquiring the person told me that Richmond indeed asked him to go for the boots but then he should give 15 pairs to someone in Kumasi and send us the remaining.” , team manager Alhassan Latif is quoted to have told Darling FM on Monday.

“As at now we have not even received even the remaining 15 pairs. He did the same thing with the Goil money and the Melcom packages.” , Alhassan Latif added.

The team’s poor performance has been criticized by Osei, who stated that they did not need the boots since they were at the bottom of the Division One League Zone 1B table with negative eight points. Unity FC had forfeited two league matches this season, resulting in a loss of six points.
