In March 2023, Chris Hughton, who had recently been appointed as the head coach of the Black Stars, laid his father, Willie Hughton, to rest in London. Willie Hughton, a Ghanaian immigrant postman, had passed away in February, the same month that Chris had been announced as the new coach for Ghana’s senior national team.
At the funeral, attendees included staff from Ghana’s High Commission in the UK and members of the Ghanaian community in London, who offered their condolences to the Black Stars coach. Willie Hughton had been married to an Irish woman named Christine Bourke.
Chris is set to arrive in Ghana soon to prepare for his official unveiling, which will take place on March 20th, 2023, in Kumasi, arranged by the Ghana Football Association.
The coach has already announced Ghana’s 25-man team that will compete against Angola in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, scheduled for March 23 and 27.
