There’s no extraordinary Player at Hearts Of Oak – Former Board Member

2 min read

The performance of Hearts Of Oak in the ongoing 2020 21 Ghana Premier League has greeted with praises both from the club’s fans and section of the Ghanaian media but Ernest Thompson has downplayed the quality of the players.

The Phobians have seen a massive improvement in this campaign since the arrival of head coach Samuel Boadu and assistant Hamza Obeng.

They also acquired the services of Salifu Ibrahim from Wonders who has won 7 man-of-the-match awards.

Hearts are undefeated in the last six games, winning five, drawing once and conceding just a goal.

The impressive run has seen Ghanaian giants move to the summit of the league with 50 points with 6 games left.

Hearts are aiming to end their long trophy drought.

But Thompson who is a former Board Member of the club insists the club lack quality in the current crop of players.

“When you are doing the recruitment you need to also bear in mind that you need one or two players especially within the midfield or the striking aspect of the game who can make a change,” he told Kumasi based Oyerepa FM.

“Years back we had Joe Fameye who you know that when the going gets tough he can do something. It’s like Asamoah Gyan when he was in form, when Ghana played England, he didn’t have a good game but the coach kept him the last minute from nowhere he put a ball in the net and it was one all.

“I am not seeing any, one or two extraordinary players, all the players seem to be on the same level.

“The team is far away from being what it is,” he added.

Hearts will play as host to Medeama on matchday 29 Sunday in Accra.
