Tariq Lamptey arrives in Ghana to watch Black Stars’ AFCON qualifier – Report

1 min read

England-born Ghanaian right-back, Tariq Lamptey has arrived in Accra with his father to watch the Black Stars 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar on June 1 after recently asking to be excused from the England U-21 squad, according to reports.

The 21-year-old is pondering over a nationality switch to play for the Black Stars following an approach by the GFA, which has been confirmed by England U-21 Coach Lee Carsley.

The Brighton and Hove Albion wing-back is expected to meet up with the Black Stars players and GFA officials during his visit to Cape Coast later.

Lamptey, who is weighing his options, is more likely to start games for the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup but may be relegated to the bench in the Three Lions squad due to the highly-rated right-back options available including Kyle Walker, Trent Arnold, Reece James and Karien Trippier.
