‘Same penalty was awarded to Hearts of Oak against us’ – Ashgold boss Thomas Duah

Interim manager of Ashantigold, Thomas Duah has said that Hearts of Oak have paid for their deeds against the Miners after losing to Asante Kotoko in Kumasi last Sunday.
The Porcupines defeated that Phobians 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium after Nurudeen Abdul-Aziz was adjudged to have fouled Fabio Gama in the box which was converted by Franck Mbella Etouga for his 16th goal of the campaign.
The club and its fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance of the centre referee, Kennedy Padi and has now made an official complaint to the Ghana Football Association.
Two weeks ago, Thomas Duah led Ashgold to a matchday 21 clash with Hearts of Oak but the Obuasi-based outfit stumbled to a 2-1 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Hearts of Oak’s penalty incident against Ashgold in Accra…
The former Ghanaian international felt his side were given a raw deal by referee George Mawuli Vormanor when the latter awarded a 12th-minute penalty against Ashgold and even threatened to invoke curses on referees after such a horrible decision.
“You could clearly see that the referee had his own results in his pockets, even though Hearts of Oak played well but the referee was awful, very soon we will start bringing our schnapps to the pitch, because we will be cursing any bad referees,” Thomas Duah said after Ashgold’s game against Hearts.
Reacting to the incident in Kumasi last Sunday, Thomas Duah admits it was a soft contact on Gama which shouldn’t have been given as a penalty but he’s happy the Phobians are going through the same pain they [Ashgold] went through two weeks ago in Accra.
“Last two weeks, thy [Hearts] did the same thing to us in Accra which was not even in the 18-yard box but the referee awarded them a penalty and Kotoko also did the same to them,” Thomas Duah said.
“To me, it wasn’t a penalty but they’ve paid for what they did to us in Accra so it’s the same pain. I always say that, you’d train your team for a game and a referee award such a ‘soft’ penalty against you, it pains so it’s tit for tat,” he ended.
Kotoko are currently 16 points above Hearts with 10 games to go until the end of the 2021/22 season.
