Samartex win maiden Ghana Premier League title

1 min read

FC Samartex secured the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title after defeating Bibiani GoldStars on Sunday, June 2, at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex.

The Timber giants achieved this milestone just a season after being promoted to Ghana’s top league.

Abdulai Nurudeen’s team clinched the league title with two games remaining, thanks to defeats suffered by Aduana and Medeama SC over the weekend.

Emmanuel Mamah scored the decisive goal just before halftime, giving his team a crucial lead that defined the match.

Heavy rain caused delays and made the pitch unplayable, but after extensive efforts and inspections, the game resumed, and the entire second half was played.

The Nsenkyire Stadium was filled with jubilant fans celebrating the historic victory.

Samartex’s triumph is notable in the Ghana Premier League, as no team has defended their title since Asante Kotoko in 2014.

They now join the elite group of Western Region clubs that have won the Ghana Premier League, alongside Sekondi Eleven Wise, Hasaacas, and Medeama SC, who won last season.

Throughout 32 matches, Samartex achieved 18 wins, four draws, and 10 losses, leading them to their success.
