Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru has tipped Asante Kotoko to clinch the ongoing 2020/21 Ghana Premier league.
The new campaign has been intriguing with some shocking results week after week in the first 7 rounds of matches played in the top-flight so far.
Asante Kotoko, who were highly tipped by many connoisseurs of the game to be the team that will win the title this season has had a conundrum start to the season. They have managed 2 wins of their first 6 games, drawn 3 and lost 1.
The management looking at how the team struggle sacked their head coach Maxwell Konadu after a 1-0 defeat to Great Olympics.
Despite the poor start, the former WAFA midfielder Majeed Ashimeru sees the Porcupine Warriors be the best team to win the league.
He, however, hopes his former side WAFA can also compete for the title this season.
“I’ll say Kotoko because I watched their game and I think they really have a good team and they are doing so much well, but I hope WAFA will compete for the title because it will be a great thing for an academy to win a title,” Majeed said in an interview on Joy Sports.
”Although we couldn’t make it, hopefully, they’ll win it. But I’ll go for Kotoko, I have many friends there, they have top players and they are also in the CAF champions league.”
Karela United lead the 18-club league log with 14 points after 7 games, Bechem United second with same 14 points and WAFA occupying the third spot with 13 points.
Asante Kotoko are 9th with 9 points with an outstanding game against Ebusua Dwarfs. They play Liberty Professionals on match-day 8 on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
