OFFICIAL: Asante Kotoko announce the capture of Richmond Lamptey
2 min readAsante Kotoko have officially announced the capture of midfielder Richmond Lamptey, their first signing this transfer window.
The 24-year-old has been a long-time target of the Porcupine Warriors. The club missed out on his services when he left WAFA SC as a free agent and signed for Inter Allies in January 2018.
But after three years and some 8 months, Lamptey finally becomes a red.
Kotoko, looking to bolster their attacking options, returned for his signature and secured an agreement with Inter Allies who will be playing Division One football in the coming season.
Lamptey signed a three-year contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023/24 season.
Inter Allies days
Lamptey settled for Inter Allies after many tempting offers in January 2018 when he was available as a free agent. He had then ended a five-year stay with Academy Boys WAFA SC.
Few months after his arrival, Lamptey left for Lebanese side Salam Zgharta on loan after bagging a goal and an assist in 13 matches for Allies during the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League.
The attacking midfielder returned from the loan prior to the start of the 2019/20 GPL in which he registered an assist in 7 matches before the campaign got cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
Richmond Lamptey enjoyed his best season in the Allies shirt in the 2020/21 campaign. He played 27 games, scored thrice with two assists and won the man-of-the-match award four times.
One of his goals was a famous belter against champions Hearts of Oak.
