Egypt superstar and captain, Mohamed Salah, has left England to join camp ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but he has acknowledged the value of representing his country.
The Liverpool striker, who helped the team defeat Newcastle United 4-2 on Monday and maintain their lead in the Premiership table, departed for the Pharaohs camp.
Salah made sure he left Liverpool for the Egypt camp on a good note by scoring twice and providing an assist after missing a penalty kick in the first half.
Following Monday’s Premier League encounter, Salah said this.
“It means a lot to play in the national team. You can ask Carragher. You can ask anyone.
The 31-year-old also revealed his desire to go all the way to win the ultimate prize at the end of the AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, starting on January 13.
“To play in the national team with the jersey is not something to take for granted. I would love to win the AFCON.”
Salah has been sensational for Liverpool this season in the Premier League, scoring 14 times and delivering 8 assists in 20 matches.
He is expected to play a crucial role for the Pharaohs, who aspire to clinch the AFCON title for a record extending eighth time.
