1 min read

Legon Cities FC finally won their first game of the season as they beat WAFA 1-0 this Friday evening at the Accra sports stadium to secure their first win in the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League.

Joseph Adjei scored from the spot to secure the Royals’ all three points in a match-day 8 encounter.

Cities came into the game as wounded lions as they were the only side in the campaign without a win, having lost 4 and drawn 3 after 7 rounds of matches.

WAFA on the other hand, came in with much confidence after a shaky 5-4 victory over visiting Medesma last week.

The first half of the game didn’t see any goal as both sides failed to create decent chances.

After recess, the home side started on a brighter note and was awarded a penalty on the 47th minute, after youngster Mathew Anim Cudjoe was illegally brought down in the 18-yard box.

Joseph Adjei stepped up to take it and expectedly he scored, sending the goalkeeper Boliver Sarfo Owusu the wrong way.

WAFA made some changes in attack with the hope of snatching the equalizing goal, but to no avail.

Midfielder Baba Mahama was sent off in the dying embers of the game, after he was shown a second yellow for obstructing the opponent’s goalkeeper.

Legon Cities kept their momentum to endure the game ended 1-0.

Legon Cities move a place up (17th) on the league table.
