Ghana’s leading all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan has made a comparison between Luka Modric’s delicious assist in Real Madrid’s quarterfinal encounter against Chelsea to Kwadwo Asamoah’s similar effort in 2014.

Asamoah Gyan drew the comparison between the two following Modric’s masterclass which has left the football world drooling over his technique.

Modric used the outside of his right boot to hit an almost 30-yard pass onto the feet of Rodrygo, who guided the ball into the net. His jaw-dropping pass caught the Chelsea defence ball watching.

But the ex-Black Stars captain believes the technique of Kwadwo Asamoah was more difficult to execute than Modric’s considering the position of the field he found himself in.

Gyan made this assertion on Twitter in reaction to the comparisons made on social media between Kwadwo Asamoah and Luka Modric.

How does Kwadwo Asamoah’s 2014 assist compare to Luka Modric?

In 2014 Ghana played against Portugal in the final group game with both sides locked on a solitary point and needing a win to qualify for the knockout phase of the FIFA World Cup.

Portugal broke the deadlock through an own goal from defender John Boye but Ghana got back in style. Galloping on the left flank was Kwadwo Asamoah got onto a pass from Andre Ayew before whipping an inch-perfect pass with the outside of his boots which was connected by Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars eventually lost the game owing to a howler from goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda which was pounced on by Cristiano Ronaldo.
