Ghana’s Elisha Owusu bags first Belgian Cup

1 min read

Black Stars midfielder Elisha Owusu came off the bench in extra-time to help KAA Gent win their fourth Belgian Cup at the expense of Majeed Ashimeru’s Anderlecht on Monday.

Though Anderlecht enjoyed 54% ball possession, Gent appeared to be the more dangerous side after creating five scoring chances, but failed to find the target, forcing the Cup final into the penalty shoot-out, which ended 4-3 for the Buffalos.

Owusu was introduced for midfielder Sven Kums in the 105th minute and picked up a yellow card after just 9 minutes of intense play.

On the other hand, fellow Ghanaian midfielder Ashimeru was replaced by defender Marco Kana after enjoying 76 minutes of playing time.

The Croky Cup triumph was Elisha Owusu’s first silverware at KAA Gent since joining from French club Lyon in June 2019.
