Ghana Women’s League Boss vows to improve upon quality of ‘substandard’ medals

1 min read

Ghana Women’s Premier League Board Chairperson, Hillary Boaten has assured critics that the quality of medals awarded to the two finalists in the ladies top flight competition will be improved upon next season.

After Ampem Darkoa Ladies beat Hasaacas Ladies 5-3 on penalties to emerge as Champions of the 2021/2022 WPL, the GFA Boss Kurt Okraku assisted Hillary Boaten to present medals to players and officials of both clubs.

Shortly after the medal and trophy presentation session at the Accra Sports Stadium, photos of the poorly designed medals were posted on social media, attracting criticisms from several fans and sports journalists.

“Definitely (the medals) need more improvement; no doubts about that. The feedback has been taken in good faith. Next season, it would even be better. The medals were done by some young, young artisans who were given an opportunity to prove themselves and so we’re trying to master their craft,” Hillary Boaten told Joy News.

This is the second time the GFA has been chided over the quality of medals presented to teams. In August 2021, majority of Ghanaian football fans and journalists registered their displeasure at the GFA for rewarding last season’s Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup champion Hearts of Oak with poor quality medals, they described as ‘key holders.’
