Ghana can win the next Afcon – Fatau Dauda

Former Ghana number one goalkeeper, Abdul Fatau Dauda believes that the Black Stars have what it takes to win the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars of Ghana have not been able to clinch the prestigious trophy since 1982, putting pressure on the team to end the trophy drought.

The next edition of the biennial competition which will be held in Egypt has been moved to 2022 due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The four-time Africa champions have come close to winning it in recent years but lost to Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire in the finals in 2010 and 2015 respectively.

Fatau Dauda believes that luck eluded the side and is optimistic that CK Akonnor’s charges will win the next edition of the competition.

“It is possible for Ghana to win the next Afcon. I remember we came close in 2015 but we were unlucky, Cote d’Ivoire won it. This time, it is possible that we can win it. Let’s pray and see what God will do for us, ” Dauda told Hello FM in Kumasi.

“As a player, I think if those invited go in with a winning mentality, it’s possible that we can win the trophy, ” he added.

Ghana currently leads it’s a group and are scheduled to play Sudan in a doubleheader in the next qualifiers beginning November 12, 2020.

The other opponents are South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
