England born Ghanaian striker Eddie Nketiah has intimated that though it would be a good opportunity to represent Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he is fully focused on Arsenal at the moment with the sole aim of resolving his club future in the summer, but insists he is open to playing for the Black Stars or England.
The 22-year-old attacker is one of seven players the GFA is reportedly in talks with to play for the Black Stars at the global soccer showpiece, which kicks off in November. The list of Ghana targets comprise Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Salisu Mohammed, Ansgar Knauff, Tariq Lamptey and Inaki Williams and his brother Nico Williams.
“My parents are both Ghanaian. I’m from a Ghanaian heritage so, yeah it’s a possibility. I’m open to both, playing for Ghana and England as well. I’ve played for the youth team so naturally when I was younger, it just made sense. They just called me up to go and play for them. It’s good that you’re from Ghana and you’re obviously happy that they’ve qualified for the World Cup,” Nketiah told The Beautiful Game Podcast.

“I know players like Thomas (Partey), I’m happy for them as well. Listen it’s good to have that opportunity to potentially do that as well. The situation I’m in is kind of like, you’ve got to know what you’re doing for the season there is no point looking too far ahead when there is a big decision in your career coming in front. At the moment, my full focus is my club and sort out things for next season. Once that’s finished then I can actually sit down with my family and have that kind of discussion. I’m open to both. I’m not closing the door to anything,” he added.
Eddie Nketiah has made 28 appearances for the various England youth teams between 2018 and 2021 scoring 25 goals.
The Gunners goal poacher spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Leeds United, where he scored 3 goals in 17 Championship appearances but returned to Arsenal for the 2020/21 season scoring 5 goals in 20 games in all competitions.
