Division One League: Sekondi Hasaacas hold Star Madrid
2 min readIt was a purposeful display with loads of advantages as Hasmal pounded the surface for what could have easily been a full mark, but ended a goalless stalemate…
Coach Mustapha Fudail Capito threw in newbies Eric Wonkyi Arthur and Elvis Nyarko who were having their debut campaigns in the Division One League.
It was a fine blend of youth and experience, the energy to slide forward at will and the intelligence to hold on and thwart what could be dangerous.
Let’s look at how the team lined up for this encounter…
16. Anthony Brebo
11. Isaac Asare
25. Nathaniel Eshun
5. Abeiku Ainooson
42. Elvis Nyarko
2. Theophilus Nana Awortwe
18. Ibrahim Sanah Mohammed/Ekow Eshun
40. Eric Wonkyi Arthur
10. Philip Flamini
9. Samuel Afful
39. Justus Torsutsey/Nicholas Zakli
A fine atmosphere at the Unistar Academy Park, Kasoa set the tone for a crunch encounter between two sides that had to wait 5 days clear to taste the 2020/2021 Division One League Season.
Star Madrid firmed up their grip in the early embers of the game and could have gone ahead only for the intervention of Anthony Brebo and Nathaniel Eshun on two seperate occasions.
It was the turn of Hasmal midway through the first half and Samuel Afful and Justus Torsutsey saw their fluffed off the goal line.
The half was even and a penalty call from both teams at either side of the pitch were waved on by Referee Eric Todzro before he signaled for the end of the half.
Nicholas Zakli brought in the firepower and gingered the forward line which pinned Star Madrid to their own half for the most part of the second half.
Zakli nearly found the opener when he was playthrough beautifully by Philip Flamini, but his effort inched off the goal.
He came close, this time glorious yet couldn’t well direct his strike to goal.
It was the chance of Samuel Afful on the 80th minute mark when he was brought down in the penalty box only for the Referee to wave play on.
Flamini was again brought down for what looked like inside the penalty box, but the Referee signaled it was outside the box.
The last chance of the game fell on the path of Afful who had company in Zakli against an oncoming defender – a pass to Zakli could have set him up face to face with the goalkeeper but his decision to go solo wasn’t the right one as he bundled over the ball for the defender to clear.
Todzro’s whistle went up for the end of the game with Hasmal sealing a point afield to Sekondi-Takoradi ahead of this weekend’s encounter against New Edubiase United FC.
