CAF CL: FC Nouadhibou, Asante Kotoko clash rescheduled

2 min read

Asante Kotoko have had their upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg fixture against Mauritanian side FC Nouadhibou date changed.

The Porcupines return to continental club competition again after they were knocked out of the Champions League last season by Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel.

Kotoko have been drawn against the Mauritanian champions in the preliminary round, which will see them play home and away for a spot in the first round.

Details have now been confirmed as to when and where exactly the Kumasi giants will be playing, with the first leg seeing them play at the Stade Olympique in Nouakchott this weekend with the return leg expected to be played the following weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The game was initially scheduled for Friday, November 27 as announced by CAF but has been rescheduled for Sunday, November 29, 2020, due to the country’s independence celebration on Saturday, November 28.

This was disclosed by ace sports journalist and GFA EXCO member Frederick Acheampong on Kessben FM this morning. He went on to explain that, the Mauritania military will on Friday train for the independence celebration on Saturday hence the change of date.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko earlier this morning left the shores of Ghana to Mauritania with a chartered flight with 21 players.

Should Maxwell Konadu’s charges advance past FC Nouadhibou, they will come up against Ugandan giants Vipers of Sudanese side Al Hillal for a place in the group stages – a feat the club have failed to achieve since 2006.
