On Friday, Algerian side Belouizdad secured a 2-0 win over South African champions Sundowns in a Group B match at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

The win saw Belouizdad qualify for the quarter-finals as Group B runners-up, while Sundowns, had already qualified for the knockout phase as group winners.

Meanwhile, TP Mazembe claimed a 2-1 win over Al Hilal in another Group B match at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

As a result, DR Congolese giants Mazembe finish third in Group B standings, while Sudanese side Al Hilal slipped down to the fourth spot and both teams failed to qualify for the last eight.

At the Salam Stadium in Cairo, Al Ahly claimed a 1-0 win over Simba SC in Group A.

The Egyptian champions ended their group stage campaign on position two behind Group winners, Simba of Tanzania with both teams having already secured their places in the last eight.

AS Vita Club also defeated Al Merrikh 3-1 in Group A at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.

The result saw Vita Club and Al Merrikh finished third and fourth respectively on the standings having both failed to qualify.

On Saturday, Kaiser Chiefs travelled all the way to Guinea to play 2-2 with Horoya in group C, a result which earned the South African giants a place in the last eight over their Guinean counterparts who also had 9 points.

Goals from Walid El Karti and Mohammed Ounnajem saw the better of Petro Athletico at the Stade Mohammed V stadium. The result made sure Wydad topped group C with 13 points to their name.

And in group D, rampant Zamalek who defeated Teungueth by 4 goals to 1 at the Cairo international sports stadium, failed to qualify for the last eight. In fact, the results from the Esperance and MC Alger game played a determining role in this one.

El Zamalek placed 3rd on the log even after such fine display. Two goals each from Mahmoud Hamdi and Marwan Hamdy in the first half were not enough to secure a place in the last eight for the Egyptians.

Lastly, MC Alger earned a hard fought point at the Stade Olympique de Rades stadium where they drew 1-1 with Tunisian powerhouse, Esperance on Saturday evening.

The results were all but enough for the two clubs to qualify and eventually book their tickets in group D to continue playing in Africa’s most prestigious club competition.

Esperance topped the group with 13 points while MC Alger came second with 9 points.

Clubs that have qualified for the quarter finals:

Mamelodi Sundowns
