Caf CC play-off: Kotoko bow out with stalemate at ES Sétif
1 min readAsante Kotoko’s African adventure came to end after their second leg clash of the final qualifying round against ES Setif ended scoreless.
The Porcupine Warriors needed to win the game by the a 2 goals margin after they lost the first leg 2-1 in Accra a week ago.
The first half of the game ended scoreless, ES Setif saw most of the ball but failed to threaten the Kotoko defense that much. Razak Abalora made some good saves to prevent the ball from hitting the net.
The second half continued just like the first, Razak Abalora was called upon in the opening minutes of the half to make some good saves.
Kotoko had to sock the pressure from ES Setif and hit their them on the break, the Porcupine Warriors were presented with their opportunity in the 79th minute, a cross from Christopher Netty found no one in the box.
Kotoko increased the tempo of the game in the final 10 minutes, Godfred Asiamah forced a save from goalkeeper Sofiane Khedairia with a ferocious effort from distance.
The referee after three minutes of additional time brought proceedings to an end. Kotoko bow out of the CAF Confederations cup after losing 2-1 on aggregate to ES Setif.
Kotoko will need to put this behind them and prepare for next week’s huge clash against bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak.
