Asante Kotoko legend likens Fabio Gama to Barcelona ace Lionel Messi

Former Kotoko striker Eric Kwabena Bekoe has asserted that the club’s Brazilian midfielder Fabio Gama Dos Santos has qualities that can be compared to that of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi. 

Gama is having an outstanding debut season with the Porcupine Warriors since joining them prior to the commencement of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

He snatched the only goal of the game over the weekend when Kotoko beat regional rivals AshantiGold.

He has also clinched two man-of-the-match accolades.

Bekoe, who was reacting to the player’s splendid displays in the Red jersey, said he is a Messi-type player and adds a lot to the Kotoko team.

“Fabio Gama is like the Lionel Messi type. When every ball reaches the attacking third, you will need to find him because he is a good passer of the ball, a good controller of the ball, and he has all the components,” he told 3news.com.

Despite the petite Brazilians enormous qualities, the 28-year-old has also received some backlash over the lack of physicality in his game.

But Bekoe believes Gama needs to be encouraged rather than criticised over his physical nature.

“Let’s forget about his size, you know you cannot judge the book by the cover, when you open the book, you know the chapters that are in it, so we should encourage him to work more and then give us the results,” said Bekoe.

The former Botafogo player has netted three times this season, including the winner against the Miners.
