Asante Kotoko head to CAS over Richmond Lamptey’s ban

Following Richmond Lamptey’s ban, Asante Kotoko’s management has declared that the team will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Richmond Lamptey received a 30-month suspension from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for his role in the Inter Allies and AshantiGold match-fixing scam.
The club’s official statement on Thursday afternoon reads;
“Management this morning have directed our legal team to begin processes at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), in respect of the Richmond Lamptey’s appeal.”

Background
Ghana Premier League teams Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies were found guilty of rigging a game that AshantiGold won 7-0 during the 2020–21 season.
AshantiGold – the home team – won the game7-0, however the primary controversy following the game revolved about Inter Allies defender Hashmin Musah, who came on to purposely score deliberate own goals in order to void the purported wagers that had been placed.

The Ghana Football Association imposed severe fines and bans on the officials and players of the two clubs.
The Ghana Football Association launched an investigation into the matter last year, inviting representatives from both teams and their players for questioning. After completing their investigation, they issued this decision.
