AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan to honour Ghana call-up for World Cup play-off against Nigeria

AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan will for the first time take up the opportunity of playing for the national team the Black Stars when they play against Nigeria in the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-off later this month.

Footydreamsgh.com can authoritatively state that the 18-year-old has been invited by head coach Otto Addo ahead of the all-important game in Kumasi.

The technical is yet to announce Ghana’s squad for the clash but our well-placed sources have confirmed that Afena-Gyan is in the squad for the game.

A source close to the player has confirmed that he has been handed a call-up and that, this around the player would be honouring the invitation after the third attempt by the Ghana Football Association.

“Felix has been invited for the play-off game against Nigeria. This time around he’ll be able to make it. He recently earned a call-up to play for Ghana but we explained why he was not going to honour at that time. But for this one I can confirm that he’ll would come for the Nigeria game, ” the source told Footydreamsgh.com

Afena-Gyan turned down a call-up to the Ghana national team ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] in Cameroon after he was named in Ghana’s 30-man provisional squad for the 33rd edition of the tournament.

It was the second time Afena-Gyan had rejected a call-up. It will be recalled that he was handed a call up ahead of the final round of games of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but failed to show up.

This season the workaholic whizkid has earned plaudits across the globe after breaking into the first team of AS Roma.

The former EurAfrica FC player has been in superb form since moving to the Serie A side – Roma’s youth team in March 2021.

Ghana will host Nigeria on March 25 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the first leg before travelling to Abuja in four days for the second leg.
