Asante Kotoko after parting ways with head coach Maxwell Konadu named Abdul Gazelle as the interim coach.
He was assisted by Johnson Smith.
Footydreamsgh.com has gathered that the Portuguese manager will appoint his backroom.
The former Ghana gaffer is coming along with his own assistant coach who will also double as the video Analyst and a physical trainer.
According to our sources, Barreto beat competition from a former coach of the Porcupine’s Ralph Zumdick to land the Kotoko top job.
Barreto has experience managing an African nation before, having taken over as Ghana coach in 2003. But he left in September 2004 after just nine months in charge, citing problems in communications with the country’s football association.
He went onto coach Portuguese side Maritimo and several other clubs in Europe including Russian sides Dynamo Moscow and Kuban Krasnodar.
