Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites, have been eliminated from the group stages of the 2023 WAFU Zone B Boys U-20 Cup of Nations after a 1-1 draw against host nation Côte d’Ivoire in their final Group A match at the Champroux Stadium.
The Black Satellites entered the game needing a victory to advance to the semifinals of the competition. However, they had a disappointing start to the tournament, surrendering an early lead to draw 1-1 against Niger in their first match and suffering a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in the second match.
In their last Group A match, Ghana was unable to secure the desired result, settling for a 1-1 draw against Côte d’Ivoire, which ultimately resulted in their elimination from the tournament.
In the other Group A match, Burkina Faso defeated Niger 2-0 to finish at the top of the group with 9 points. Côte d’Ivoire finished in second place with 4 points, Ghana claimed the third spot with 2 points, and Niger finished at the bottom with 1 point.
Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire will discover their semifinal opponents on Friday, June 14, when Benin faces Togo in the sole Group B match.
