Veteran Sports Journalist Ekow Asmah has criticized Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif over his excessive focus on the senior national football team, tagging him as a Black Stars Minister.
According to the PRO of Bazooka Promotions and Management Syndicate, Ussif has neglected boxing at the expense of football and starved the sport, which has produced more world titles for Ghana, of the financial support to achieve more glories.
“Your Sports Minister who calls himself a Sports Minister but I know he is a Black Stars Minister. He passes by the Sports Hall, when Black Bombers are training and goes to watch the Black Stars. The Sports Minister needs to start taking responsibility for boxing as well,” Ekow Asmah told Accra based Happy Fm.

The Black Stars have not won a major trophy since their fourth Africa Cup of Nations title, achieved 40 years ago. However, Samuel Takyi, a former member of Ghana’s amateur boxing team – the Black Bombers, produced a bronze medal feat for the nation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the Featherweight division.
Asides Takyi’s recent success story, boxing has produced ten world champions for Ghana including DK Poison, Azumah Nelson, Nana Yaw Konadu, Ike Quartey, Joseph Agbeko and Joshua Clottey to name a few.
