Unhappy CK Akonnor backs Otto Addo to excel as Ghana Coach

Ex-Ghana Coach, CK Akonnor has thrown his weight behind Otto Addo to succeed as Black Stars Coach, despite admitting he is displeased with the Ghana FA over some issues, believed to be his unpaid salaries.
The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko trainer was handed a two-year contract in January 2020 and was entitled to a $25,000 monthly salary but was only paid for 7 months.
FootyDreamsGH sources have disclosed that Akonnor intends to report Ghana to FIFA with aim of claiming his salary arrears of $425,000. The 48-year-old has grown impatient after continuously being given excuses regarding the delayed payment.
The ex-Black Stars and Wolfsburg Captain was sacked by the Ghana FA in September 2021 after an unconvincing win against Ethiopia and a defeat to South Africa in Group G of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Though some football fans feel Akonnor is bitter about the Black Stars, the retired midfielder claims he still supports the senior national team and new Coach Otto Addo to excel in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
“I still support the Black Stars. I was once the coach but it didn’t go well. It doesn’t mean anything. Before he (Otto Addo) became the Assistant Coach, I spoke to him. The fact that it didn’t go well with me doesn’t mean I don’t wish him well. I’m just not happy with certain things. I don’t like excuses but I love my country,” CK Akonnor told Accra based Happy FM.
Out of 10 games, CK Akonnor led the Black Stars to 4 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws, with a win rate of 40% achieved in one year and nine months in charge of the national team.
