“Thank God for letting it rain” – Otto Addo credits the weather for Ghana’s victory over CAR
1 min readBlack Stars coach Otto Addo credited Ghana’s exciting 4-3 win over the Central African Republic (CAR) to the rain that fell Monday night at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
This victory is Ghana’s second in nine months, following their earlier win against Mali in Bamako.
The Black Stars secured the win despite a late scare, with Jordan Ayew scoring a hat-trick and youngster Fatawu Issahaku also adding to the score. This victory puts Ghana at the top of Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Otto Addo acknowledged the positive effect of the rainy conditions on their performance and thanked the fans in Kumasi for their consistent support during the game.
“I think the rain also helped us to play faster, have control, and play fast balls, so thank God for letting it rain. This was very beneficial to our players,” Addo said.
“Thank you, as always. The support was overwhelming from the start, and despite falling behind in the first half, they pushed us forward to play better. Thank you, Kumasi, for always supporting us,” Addo added.
With this win, Ghana leads Group I and aims to maintain their strong form in their next World Cup qualifier against Chad, set to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in March 2025.
