Sam Johnson: We shouldn’t pressure Black Stars to win Afcon at all cost

1 min read

Former Ghana defender Sam Johnson has called on Ghanaians to lower their expectations on the Black Stars winning the next Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars of Ghana have not been able to clinch the prestigious trophy since 1982, putting pressure on the team to end the trophy drought.

The next edition of the biennial competition has been moved to 2022.

However, Sam Johnson wants fans of the Black Stars to reduce their expectations.

‘”The COVID-19 has rendered the players inactive. So there is no need for us to put pressure on the team,” he told Hello FM.

“But all the same, we have to do our best in this current situation. We should not relax and accept any outcome.

“However, I think we shouldn’t pressure them much to win at all cost. But in everything, there’s a good side.

“We just have to hope the players pick up early,” he concluded.

Sam Johnson played for Ghana between 1992 to 2003.
