Coach Prince Yaw Owusu has stepped down as interim head coach of Asante Kotoko with immediate effect, the club announced on Monday evening, just days after a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Medeama SC at Tarkwa.
The heavy loss, which left the team dropped from the top 4 on the log, proved to be Owusu’s final game in charge. In a resignation letter submitted to management, the coach stated that his decision was taken “in the greatest interest of the club.”
Owusu, who was appointed on an interim basis earlier in the campaign, leaves without a single public word of complaint. His letter offered no attack on players or officials, choosing instead to frame his exit as a necessary step for the team’s survival.
Management has since accepted the resignation. In a terse statement signed by Communications Director Sarfo Duku Esq., the club expressed its “sincere appreciation” to Owusu for his service, dedication, and commitment, while wishing him well in his future endeavours.

With the season still ongoing, youth team coach Hamza Obeng has been placed in temporary charge of the first team for the remaining fixtures. The club said further arrangements regarding the technical direction of the team would be communicated in due course.
Obeng, who has been working with the club’s junior ranks, now faces the immediate task of steadying a squad that appears low on confidence after the Tarkwa mauling. His first test is expected to come soon.
