Head Coach of Asante Kotoko, Maxwell Konadu says playing league matches away from their original home venue has affected his team’s fortunes on the pitch.
Asante Kotoko’s favorite Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi is currently undergoing renovation works, meaning the team had to find a makeshift home venue for the 2020-21 football season.
As a result Kotoko settled on moving home games to Accra for the season where they will compete in the CAF Champions League alongside the domestic competitions.
The Porcupine Warriors opened heir season with a home league clash against Techiman Eleven Wonders which ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw.
After seeing his side fail to make it count at home against minnows Eleven Wonders, Maxwell Konadu diagnosed his team’s problems and highlighted playing away from home as a contributory factor.
“This playing from home started from last season and it hasn’t been helping us. Its always better to be in front of your home fans, playing in Kumasi means a lot to the team,” Konadu revealed during the post match interview.
On how his plans to come back from such a setback, Maxwell Konadu has revealed the hard work continues as he works around the team’s cohesion and other aspects of their game.
The former Black Stars gaffer sounded confident that they will come good in subsequent matches.
“This is the first league match, Yes we wanted to secure the three points but unfortunately it couldn’t happen. But we’ll still work hard. Its just the first match. The team is still gelling together and I believe that as time goes on, the team will become better than we did today,” Konadu concluded.
Asante Kotoko will next face Berekum Chelsea on the road.
