Armed Robbers Attack Berekum Chelsea on Goaso Road as players flee into bushes

Armed robbers attacked the bus of Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea, forcing players and officials to flee for their lives, while returning from Premier League clash against FC Samartex, according to reports filed by journalist Michael Oti Adjei.

The attack occurred at Ahyiresu, between Bibiani and Goaso, a stretch known for its dense vegetation and isolated terrain.

According to reports, the team’s bus was intercepted after the robbers deliberately blocked the road, leaving the players with no clear path forward.

When the driver attempted to reverse the bus to escape the ambush, the armed men continued advancing toward the vehicle. It was at this moment that the situation escalated dramatically.

As the robbers opened fire, several players were forced to abandon the bus and flee into nearby bushes to avoid being hit. The sound of gunshots reportedly sent panic through the squad, with some players scattering in different directions.

The extent of injuries, if any, remains unclear at this time. However, initial reports suggest that the majority of the players managed to escape unharmed, though many are said to be traumatized by the experience.

The robbery adds to a growing list of security concerns for football teams travelling on Ghana’s highways, particularly during evening hours. Incidents of armed robbery on major roads have become a recurring issue, raising questions about the safety of both local and travelling teams.

At the time of filing this report, Berekum Chelsea had not released an official statement regarding the incident. Similarly, the Ghana Police Service has yet to comment on whether any arrests have been made or if an investigation has been launched.

Fans and well-wishers have taken to social media to express their relief that the players survived the ordeal, while also calling on authorities to beef up security along major highways.

Berekum Chelsea suffered a 1-0 defeat in the said match.
