Orlando Pirates will not sign a 37-year-old - Sulley Muntari's agent claims

Sulley Muntari’s agent has commented on reports linking the Ghanaian international with a move to South African-based Orlando Pirates.

Reports went rife that Pirates were planning a bid for the Hearts of Oak midfielder following his impressive display this season.

But his agent has confirmed that the move will not happen due to his age. The former Black Stars midfielder will turn 38 in August.

“Look, there have been several reports from Ghana about the supposed potential signing of Sulley Muntari with Pirates but as someone who is based here in South Africa and close to Pirates and familiar with how the club operates, I doubt if there is any truth to those reports,” the agent told Soccer Laduma.

“The Pirates I know wouldn’t sign a 37-year-old because as far as I know the club is building for the future and therefore is targeting players who are much younger than that.”

Muntari has been a key cog of Samuel Boadu’s side this season despite joining the club half way through the campaign.

He has scored one goal and provided one assist in six league games for Hearts of Oak so far this season

Pirates is home to the pair of Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori and striker Kwame Peprah and Muntari would link up with his countrymen if he was to join the Soweto giants.
