Hearts of Oak have appointed Serbian Slavko Matić as the Ghanaian giants’ new head coach.
This was made official by the club’s Executive Board Chairman Togbe Afede XIV during a media engagement at the World Trade Centre in Accra Wednesday afternoon.
Addressing the media on events post the club’s early exit from the 2022/23 Caf Confederation Cup, Togbe announced handing the Uefa Pro License holder a contract for two years.
Matić’s engagement has been an expected one following his arrival in the country on October 11.
It is understood that the 46-year-old was contacted over the Hearts job almost immediately after Samuel Boadu was relieved of his duties.
Matić – who had been away on a 3-day break to renew his Pro coaching license in Bosnia and Herzegovinian capital Sarajevo – went on to quit his role at Bulgarian topflight side Septemvri Sofia on Sunday, October 9 and made his way to Accra two days later.
With his confirmation as the new Phobians gaffer, the expatriate will be supported by local man David Dickson Ocloo who was also appointed as an assistant coach over a fortnight ago.
