Tamale City reigned supreme over fellow strugglers Kotoku Royals by beating them 3-0 to open match-day 16 of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Royals headed for the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Saturday on the back of a rare third win of the season in midweek. In contrast, City were returning home with a draw from Samartex.
As the game approached the half-hour mark, Justice Mensah flicked a free kick from Liventius Attur into the path of Sampson Eduku, who beat goalkeeper Clinton Quaye with a simple touch from the back post for his 6th goal of the campaign.
In the 45th minute, a well-delivered cross into the box by Ridwan Ali was perfectly met by a header from an unmarked Matthew Agama to make it 2-0.
The Citizens sailed into the break comfortably ahead and returned to ensure the needed victory in the second half with one more goal.
It landed in the 70th minute. A Godfred Abban cutback found Justice Mensah whose strike deflected off Richard Mensah to beat goalkeeper Clinton Quaye.
Both Tamale City and Kotoku Royals will remain unmoved in their 17th and 18th positions respectively after the match-day 16 round of games. However, City now lead the bottom-placed Royals by 5 points as they reach 15 points.
