Match Report: Qatar beat Black Galaxies in international friendly

Ghana’s local national team, the Black Galaxies suffered a 2-1 defeat to the senior national team of Qatar in a friendly encounter at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria.
The Black Galaxies after a slow start to the game found themselves a goal after just 2 minutes of kickoff. Qatar probed and doubled their lead in the 26th minute.
In the 68th minute, Daniel Afriyie pulled a goal back to give Ghana hope of a comeback. However, the Qatar defense stayed resilient to win 2-1.
Despite the defeat, the Black Galaxies gave a good account of themselves in the game which forms part of their preparations for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) final round qualifiers against Nigeria.
The first leg of the qualifier is slated for Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the Cape Coast Stadium and the second leg at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Saturday, September 3.
Meanwhile, the Black Galaxies team is expected to be back in Ghana on Thursday, August 26 to intensify preparations for the qualifiers in Cape Coast.
Ghana is in hunt for a record 4th CHAN tournament having missed out on the last three editions in 2016, 2018 and 2020.
The Black Galaxies finished 2nd in the 1st edition in 2009 after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final in Cote D’Ivoire.
