Match Report: In-form Gyamfi bags brace in Dwarfs win as Kotoko extend lead

Asante Kotoko recorded their third straight win in the Ghana Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Ebusua Dwarfs at the Len Clay Stadium in matchweek 24 fixture.

Both sides began the game on a slow note mainly defending deep with the opponent in control, Kotoko’s 4-2-3-1 formation meant Habib Mohammed played deep in front of the defence, while Mudasiru Salifu, Emmanuel Gyamfi, and Patrick Asmah all playing at their half-line.

With Michael Asamoah, Elia Kofi, Daniel Korsah all attacking at the start of the game, Coach Barreto instructed his boys to open up play through the wings where Emmanuel Gyamfi and Patrick Asmah with Imoro and Nettey supporting.

The visitors, however, shot themselves into the lead through captain Daniel Korsah who beautifully delivered a long-range shot to beat Razak Abalora.

Asante Kotoko kept pressing for the equalizer until the 29th-minute when Emmanuel Gyamfi headed home a Christopher Nettey’s cross to end the first half 1-1.

Ebusua Dwarfs struggled to contain Kotoko in that play pattern usually fouling their attackers.

With firm control over the game, Asante Kotoko intensified their play pushing the visitors to play in their own area, while committing several fouls.

Asante Kotoko got the second in the 50th-minute through captain Emmanuel Gyamfi who would score his second on the day and his third league goal of the season to hand the Reds the maximum points after benefitting from goalkeeper Razak Issah’s howler.

Dwarfs kept pressing to get the equalizer, but a firm Asante Kotoko defence led by Abdul Ganiyu Ismail kept the visitors’ attack at bay.

The win thus stretches the Porcupines’ lead at the summit of the league to 44 points, four points above second-placed Hearts of Oak.
