Match report: Bechem United pip Hearts Of Oak to move second on the log

1 min read

Defeating Hearts of Oak on Saturday afternoon with a Hafiz Konkoni first-half penalty ensured Bechem United made it home and away wins in their meetings in the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The Hunters won 2-1 away against the Phobians in the earlier fixture at Cape Coast Stadium last January.

Playing hosts this time, one goal at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park proved enough for coach Kasim Mingle’s boys.

Winger Clinton Duodu was adjudged to have been illegally brought down by Hearts left-back Dennis Korsah after he was picked out by a pass from midfielder Seth Kwadwo.

The visitors vehemently protested the penalty decision by referee Joseph Kwofie but he will not be swayed.

Striker Konkoni elected himself and expertly converted from the spot his 13th goal of the campaign. He sent goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi the wrong way.

The 25th-minute strike remained the decisive factor in the hotly contested match-day 27 fixture.

The 1-0 victory lifts Bechem United into second position in the league standings on 44 points – just three adrift of leaders Aduana FC who face defending champions Asante Kotoko in a night fixture in Kumasi on Sunday. Hearts, on the other hand, sit fourth with 42 points.

Hafiz Konkoni walked home with the man-of-the-match award.

Meanwhile in the other Saturday fixture in Dawu, bottom club Kotoku Royals settled for a 0-0 draw at home to Real Tamale United (RTU).
