Match Preview: RTU, Nsoatreman square off in MTN FA Cup quarter-final in Tamale

Real Tamale United have featured in three FA Cup finals, but their recent performances have been lackluster, with their most recent final resulting in defeat against Asante Kotoko in 2001.

Their first final appearance was in 1981, where they lost to Accra Hearts of Oak. In 1986, they made it to the final again, only to be defeated by two-time champions Okwahu United.

Currently, the Premier League team is set to face off against Nsoatreman FC in the quarterfinals of the 2022/23 competition at the Aliu Mahama stadium on Saturday. Real Tamale United is currently in 12th place in the Premier League standings, with 32 points, while Nsoatreman FC, a newly promoted team, is seeking to make their first semifinal appearance in history.

Nsoatreman FC has been performing impressively in this season’s Cup competition, having won against three second-tier teams: Baffuor Soccer Academy, Wamanafo Mighty Royals, and Debibi United. The team started the competition with a 2-1 victory against Baffour Soccer Academy, followed by a 1-0 win against Wamanafo Mighty Royals, and a 7-6 penalty shootout victory against Debibi United after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Both teams have a lot at stake, with Nsoatreman FC hoping to boost their confidence by securing a semifinal appearance and protecting their Premier League status, while Real Tamale United aims to make a statement and return to their former glory.

The match is set to kick off at 6:45pm at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale.
