“Mali didn’t play anything extraordinary” – CK Akonnor

1 min read

Ghana head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has shockingly stated that his side was unlucky to loss 3-0 to Mali because Mohamed Magassouba’s side was not extraordinary as indicated by many.

Ghana was mauled 3-0 by the Eagles of Mali in an international friendly held at the Emir Hotel Sports Complex in Turkey on Friday evening – the game which happened to be Akonnor’s first game as Black Stars coach.

A goal under 3 minutes from Hamari Traoré, and two in the second half by El Bilal Toure and Amadou Haidara handed Mali a resounding 3-0 victory over the Black Stars of Ghana.

Akonnor insists his charges were unlucky on the day and also lacked organisation.

” I won’t blame the players for the defeat but the key thing which resulted our loss to Mali was that the team was not organized,” Akonnor told Adom TV

“The players didn’t know themselves because most of them were debutants and even the first time they’re playing together.”

“We trained for only two days and there was lack of understanding as well. These are the few things which affected us during the game”

“Mali didn’t play anything extraordinary but they were an organized side which handed them the victory” he concluded.

Ghana will ttake on Qatar in the second friendly on Monday, October 12,2020 at the same venue they played the Malians.
