Eleven Ghana Premier League players are included in Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton’s 55-man tentative roster list for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) received an official list of fifty-five (55) players from each of the twenty-four (24) participating countries for the continental championship, which is set to take place in Ivory Coast early in January 2024.

Players that play overseas, such as Yaw Yeboah, the winner of the MLS Cup, and Brandon Thomas-Asante, a star for West Bromwich Albion, led Ghana’s list.

Bernard Tekpetey, an attacker for PFC Ludogorets Razgrad, was also selected for the preliminary squad and may return for his second Africa Cup of Nations participation.

Accra Great Olympics top marksman Emmanuel Antwi and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who has preserved seven clean sheets in the current Ghana Premier League season, were among the local players who secured a spot on the squad.

After their performances in the CAF Champions League, Jonathan Sowah, Nurudeen Abdulai, Derrick Fordjour, Fatawu Hamidu Abdul, and Felix Kyei—five players from Medeama SC—were selected for the shortlist.

Alongside Nations FC defender Razak Simpson, Asante Kotoko’s highly regarded midfield player Richmond Lamptey was also picked.

Dreams FC’s seasoned striker John Antwi and colleague Godfred Atuahene were included on the roster.

Ghana is hoping to win its fourth AFCON title and break their trophy drought that dates back to 1982 when they travel to Ivory Coast. Ghana has been assigned to Group B.
