Kotoko captain Richard Boadu eyes Champions League group stage

2 min read

Asante Kotoko captain, Richard Boadu, says they are not only interested in beating RC Kadiogo in Kumasi on Sunday but are aiming to make it to the group stage of the 2022/23 Caf Champions League.

Kotoko will host RC Kadiogo of Burkina Faso in the second leg tie of the Caf Champions League preliminary round on Sunday.

The Ghanaian champions scored late to secure a 1-0 win in the first leg clash in Benin on Monday, and will therefore be hoping to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Friday morning, Boadu indicated that he and his teammates are ready to make history for themselves by qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League this season.

“We all read about the history. However, this is our time to also make history and for us as players, our immediate target is to reach the group stage.

“The coach has been fantastic and he relates very well with us.”

“Sunday’s game is very important for all of us, and we know it’s not going to be easy, but we are ready for it.”

The game is scheduled to come on at the Baba Yara Stadium at 1500GMT.

Asante Kotoko are seeking to play in the group phase for the first time since 2006.

The winner of the two-legged tie will face the winner of the game between Gaborone United Sporting Club and AS Vita Club of DR Congo in the next round of the competition.
