Former Asante Kotoko winger, John Smith Bannerman has advised the management and supporters of the club to lower their expectations about winning Africa title.
The Kumasi-based club is the most successful club in the history of the Premier League and has also won the CAF Champions League twice with the last one dating back to 1983.
Since then they have been struggling to make it into the group stage of inter-club competitions.

Responding to how the Reds can dominate Africa again, John Bannerman who was a member of the 1983 winning squad wants quality foreign players to be acquired to augment the squad.
According to him, they will offer the club the needed quality in-depth of the squad.
“It thinks we should lower our expectations about winning Africa now. Some of the African teams have advanced now in club football. TP Mazembe sign players from other Africa countries. It has been helping them because bringing players from different parts of the continent improve the quality of the team. They come in with seriousness due to the amount of money given to them, ” he told Hello FM.
“It will be difficult if we want to rely on our local players to win Africa. You realise the others have been buying from outside to augment their squad.”
The Porcupine Warriors will represent Ghana in the Caf Champions League in the upcoming season.
